Climate Action
Global climate change and its alarming associated environmental impacts have become one of the most prominent challenges facing humanity today and future generations.
It has been scientifically proven that unregulated human activities such as the use of fossil fuels and unsustainable urban expansion have led to increased emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, resulting in a troubling rise in temperatures on Earth’s surface.
The effects of this change have become clearly apparent, such as increasing desertification rates, freshwater scarcity, and the frequent occurrence of natural disasters, posing a serious threat to the planet’s ecological balance.
It has now become necessary to work on mitigating the severity of this change through a set of measures and policies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change.

The efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on climate action
Saudi Arabia has made considerable efforts toward climate action. It has committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 278 million tons annually by 2030, which represents 6% of its total emissions. The Kingdom is pursuing this goal through a number of initiatives, most notably:
The Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to plant 10 billion trees and reduce carbon emissions by 40% by 2030.
The Middle East Green Initiative, which aims to plant 50 billion trees and protect 30% of land and oceans in the region by 2030.
These initiatives contribute to realizing the Kingdom’s goals for climate action and position Saudi Arabia as a key player in climate action in the region.
The Kingdom seeks to be a leader in clean, renewable energy, environmental protection, and confronting the impacts of climate change.
Trees play an important role in combating climate change. They absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, a major greenhouse gas. When trees absorb carbon, they store it. This helps reduce emission levels of carbon in the atmosphere.

Since 1880, the Earth’s average temperature has risen by approximately 1.1°C. The Earth’s temperature is projected to increase by approximately 1.5°C by 2030 and 2.7°C by 2100 if actions are not taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
